Mr. Reginald Watson, in his 83rd season, "Boarded that Old Ship of Zion" on Saturday afternoon, October 27, 2012 from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Mr. Watson was born August 2, 1929 in Haynesville, Louisiana to Cub and Lula Mae [Turner] Watson. He was the youngest of five children.
At an early age, the family moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he attended shcool. While serving in the U. S. Army, he met and married Carol Annette Feimster on May 28, 1951. This loving union was blessed with five children.
He was employed with McDonnell-Douglas for more than thirty years. After retiring in 1994, he worked security for the Promenade Mall. At the age of 80, he continued working at Albertson's and Reasor's Grocery Stores.
Mr. Watson was baptized in October 1951 at the Ninth & S. Church of Christ in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In 1968, he moved his membership to the North Peoria Congregation in Tulsa. He remained a faithful member, teaching New Converts Bible Class with Brother Hassan Reed for many years. He was faithful until his health declined.
He was instrumental in organizing the Congress of Racial Equality [C.O.R.E.] in Fort Smith in the early 1960's, where he fought for the civil rights of African Americans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Leola Tuggle and Alean Atkins, as well as a brother, Leonard Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Carol; his children, Regina, Gregory [Shelly], Kimberley, Janet [Barry] and Byron; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, David Watson, Fort Smith, Arkansas; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins friends and neighbors.
The Hour of Tribute for Mr. Watson will commence on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the North Peoria Avenue Church of Christ. Brother Warren Blakney, Pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.
