Obituary

The Reverend Larry Loggins, after 63 years, surrendered his soul to Jesus on Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 from the Jack C. Montgomery Regional Veterans Administration Medical Center in Muskogee, with his loving family by his side.

In Muskogee, Oklahoma on July 7, 1953 a baby boy was born to Billie Sue Perkins and William M. Loggins.  Their new joy in life was named Larry Eugene Loggins.

From the age of one year old, Larry was raised by his mother and stepfather, Thaddeus Snoddy, whom he loved dearly.

Larry loved life and was the life of any event he attended. He made sure he dressed to impress. Yes he did!  He had a loving personality and people loved being around him.  He thought he was the king of barbecuing, and when he did, he always invited family and friends over. He never met a stranger and fed many people he didn't know.  He also loved fishing but his first love was singing.  In school he participated in drama and choir. He continued with his first love and became lead singer of The New Horizons Band at Connors State College, where he attended. Whatever event he attended, he always managed to sing a song. No music necessary.

Larry joined the U.S. Navy during high school and continued serving after his discharge with the National Guard and Army Reserve for a total of 20 years. At the age of 15, he received his ministry license under Rev. T.L. Turner of Rayfield Baptist Church. He traveled with Rev. Lacey and "Momma" Lacey to Tipton, Missouri, preaching revivals. In 1992 he was ordained by Rev. James E. White of Central Baptist Church, where his father, William Loggins served as Moderator of the Ordination Council. Larry Pastored Ebenezer Baptist Church and later moved his membership to Little Rose Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Paul Washington.

Larry was employed with Hilldale Public Schools and later INCOR of Muskogee. While he had no children of his own, he loved children and was father, and uncle to his many nieces, nephews and neighborhood kids. There was never a time he didn't break out into a song to teach them. He loved listening to his nieces sing for him. He met and married Deborah Lynn Johnson. They were the love of each other's life.  When you saw one, you saw the other. They were known as "Larry and Deborah."  It wasn't one name without the other. Their home was the family home. Birthdays, holidays, or any day they decided to cook or grill (which was all the time) family and friends gathered at "Larry and Deborah's."  And the singing continued.

As his health began to slowly fail, his activities stopped but he maintained the same spirit.  He fought the good fight; he finished his course.

Loved ones who preceded him in death are his father William M. Loggins, Step-father Thaddeus Snoddy, and his brother, Thaddeus Snoddy Jr.

The family he leaves to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Deborah of the home. Step sons, Tyree Griffin III of Dallas, Texas and Bryant Griffin (Toni) of Muskogee. Mother, Billie Sue Snoddy, Twin sisters, Brenda Davison and Linda Current (Ronnie) of Muskogee. Nephew Eduardo Snoddy of Muskogee, twin nephews Donnie Current of Berean, Ronnie Current of Okinawa, Anthony Hinson of Tulsa, Ok., Brandon Current of Muskogee. His one and only niece Gladys Brown of Muskogee. Denise Woodard of Muskogee. Brother in law Micheal Johnson of Kansas City, Sister in law Karen Frith of Muskogee, Brother in law Tommy Johnson (Patricia) of Muskogee, Henry Johnson(Glenda) of Muskogee, Sister in law Tina Smith of Oklahoma City: a caravan of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
