Obituary

Reverend Ray J. Linex, "after Four-score and Two Years" was beckoned by Jesus to rest from thine labor.

On January 17, 1929, Ray Junior Linex was born to Gertrude Adkins and Alfred Lenix in Gay, Oklahoma. Ray, known to many as "Junior", was a little bundle of joy. He was the first child born to this union. He was raised by his grandmother, Liza Harris.

Ray attended public schools in Okmulgee County. Some of his fondest times were spent enjoying fishing.

Ray joined the church at an early age and later became an ordained minister at Harris Chapel Baptist Church in Okmulgee County in 1987 under the spiritual guidance of the late Rev. Grady Asberry. At the time of his death, Ray was the proud pastor of St. John Baptist Church in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, where he pastored for over 19 years. He just loved to share the Word of God with others.

As a young man, Ray was married to Delores Horne. Ray loved to drive trucks and drove cross country for years before retiring and driving locally.

Ray later met and married his loving wife, Cecelia Grayson.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Liza Harris, his birth mother, Gertrude Harris-Lenix, his father, Alfred Lenix, his step-children; daughter, Sandra Horne, and son, Roy Carter. His brother, Van Adams also preceded him in death.

Ray leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Cecelia of the home. Vickie Smith, raised as his granddaughter, two step-daughters, Donna Ratliff and Wanda Brown (Marvin); one stepson, Lorenzo Horne (Vivian); all of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Two step-daughters, Cheryl Wortham (Donnie) Denton, Texas., and Nikki Driver (Dewitt) Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sisters, Norma Lennox and Patricia DeJear, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four brothers, Paul, Lee Otis (Joann), and Johnny of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Eugene (Alice) of Enid, Oklahoma. One aunt, Ruthie Holiday, Gay, Oklahoma; one uncle, J.C. Lennox, Grant, Oklahoma. Survivors also include a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. We cannot forget the St. John Baptist Church family whom he loved dearly.

The Hour of Tribute will commence on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the most Holy Sanctuary of the Saint Andrew Baptist Church, 3115 North Garrison in Tulsa. Dr. Bertrand M. Bailey, Sr., is the gracious host Pastor.

You may visit Pastor Linex, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the Funeral Home in Tulsa on Wednesday from 10 AM until 7 PM.
