Paul began his journey on July 23, 1963 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, as he blessed the lives of Callie Johnson and Fred Washington. He was the youngest of three children in the home of this marital union.
As his dad was advanced in years, Paul had the opportunity to enjoy him for a short while and his mother only a little while longer. Paul stayed very close to his pastor, Rev. Theodore Hickerson, most of his childhood life going to all church programs at St. Mark and many other churches as well as other church related activities. He loved to visit elderly people who lived near "the Creek" as well as all his classmates/teammates in the athletic groups he participated in (football especially- Paul Young Football League and Muskogee High School teams).
Callie's family, being charter members of St. Mark, he wasn't asked IF he wanted to go to church as a child, it was mandatory. Paul accepted the Lord at an early age. Paul had a love for the arts (plays and musicals) which he participated in at Edison Elementary School, Alice Robertson Middle School (A.R.M.S.), and lots of swimming as well.
Paul later joined the United States Army, where he enjoyed seeing the world and worked on helicopters as one of the most requested electricians. After Paul was honorably discharged, he came back home and accepted his call to the ministry under Pastor Mark Williams and continued to serve in St. Mark, the nursing homes and the many 3:00 P.M. and auxiliary group programs his church had to offer.
In Paul's younger days, he earned degrees through Connors State College and Northeastern State University (Bachelors in Education following internship with dynamic mentor, Carol Duncan), then met and then married a young lady (the love of his life), Candi Wilks. They enjoyed a wonderful life together full of ministry through preaching and music, as an Educator for Muskogee Public Schools (very briefly 1st grade class and A.R.M.S.) and Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, later Assoc Minister at Antioch Baptist Church, then Pastor of Little Rose Baptist Church and was blessed with their precious child, who they named Callie, and whose personality closely resembled her paternal grandmother in many ways. He became a member of the Muskogee Christian Ministers Union and NAACP as he believed in providing services to the community as a vital part of outreach and concern for the well-fare of others.
On November 3, 2018, Paul was called from his labor and physical pains to glory to see his Savior, face to face. Those waiting to welcome him home were his parents, grandparents, his sister, Sheila "Chee Chee" Kendrick, special father-in-law Lawrence Wilks, and many other relatives.
Paul leaves behind to cherish his memory; his wife Candi, his daughter, Callie, his special mother-in-law, Linda Wilks, all of Muskogee; his brother Arthur "Spud" Kendrick (Linda), of Denver, Colorado; his sister, Freddie Mae Washington-Owens, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sally Washington-Woods, of El Mirage, Arizona, Norma Washington-Goss, of Compton, California; his niece, Sherry Owens, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his nephews, Clifford Owens, Jr., and Jeffrey Owens, Tulsa, Oklahoma; his nephews, Brian Kendrick of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Eric (Semetria) Woodard, of Dallas, Texas, his nieces, Carla Kendrick and Deshawn "Huggie" Woodard-Dewberry (Patrick), all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his great nephews and nieces, Bryshawn Cooper, Ryan Smith, Brian Kendrick Jr, Brikale Kendrick, Breshauna Kendrick, Fagon Hall, Jaydikka Hall, Taylor Woodard, Deaundre, Keonte, Kia, Koby, JaMaya, Jaya, Jaleel, Jalen and their children all of Tulsa; as well as his extended Little Rose MBC family, and a host of other family and friends.
