IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard
Randell
March 23, 1965 – March 29, 2022
Richard Allen Randell, 57, of Muskogee, OK, was born Tuesday March 23, 1965, in Tulsa, OK to Paul K. and Phyllis Jean Randell (Davis) and passed away after a short battle with esophageal cancer on March 29, 2022, at Saint Francis
Hospital in Muskogee, OK, with his son, Christopher, by his side.
Richard was the youngest of six children and has been adored by his older siblings since the day he was born. Richard grew up in the Tulsa area where he loved playing little league baseball. He was from a big family and his siblings and cousins were his closest friends while growing up.
He moved to Muskogee in the fall of 1985 and began his employment with the City of Muskogee Parks and Recreation Department in the summer of 1988 and remained with them until his illness forced him to medically retire on March 4, 2022. He was one of the lucky ones, he was able to receive a paycheck for doing something he loved. Richard simultaneously earned his high school diploma and his Certificate in Horticulture from Bacone College in Muskogee, OK in 1992 by attending evening classes, while working full-time during the day. He used his new knowledge in horticulture and his passion for landscaping, plant care, and all things green, along with the love his mother felt for Honor Heights Park, to help develop the Honor Heights Park you see today. He was a pivotal figure in the creation of the first Garden of Lights in 1993 and he decorated the park every year afterwards.
Richard met his best friend and life partner, Edie, in 1992 when she began working for the City of Muskogee Parks and Recreation Department. Richard and Edie's lives revolved mostly around their children and later their grandchildren. Together, they coached their two youngest sons' baseball team, The Renegades, for seven seasons. Richard was also partially responsible for bringing a couple of years of Paul Young football to the elementary kids at Okay Public Schools.
Richard enjoyed coaching and watching his children play sports. He was also a fan of the OSU Cowboys and Cowgirls in any sport they were playing, but his favorite was OSU Cowboy football. If Richard was not working, watching football, or doing something with one of his grandchildren, then you would have found him at the casino. Richard's favorite thing to do was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Richard was a nonjudgmental man, who had a way of bringing a feeling of calmness to those who were around him, no matter the situation. He was a hard-working man, who enjoyed and took pride in his job. He was always proud of his children, even through their "not so proud" moments, confidently knowing that they would all, eventually, find their way.
Mr. Richard Randell, in his 57th year of life, transitioned from life to eternity, with his loving family near his side, on Tuesday morning, March 29, 2022 from Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Richard was preceded in death by his father Paul K. Randell and his mother Phyllis Jean (Davis) Randell; one daughter, Camellia Lynn McJunkin, and one sister Elaine Randell, and just recently his honorary father and good friend, Willie
McJunkin I.
Richard is survived by his best friend and life partner, Edie F. McJunkins of the home; Son Ormondo McJunkin and wife Ruth of Brandon, FL, daughter Sonya McJunkin of Tulsa, OK, daughter Angela Randell and her SO, James of Broken
Arrow, OK, son Christopher Randell and his wife, Amber of Okay, OK, Willie McJunkin II of Muskogee, OK and daughter Sunnie McJunkin of the home; one grandson of the home, Gareth McJunkin; one niece he loved as a daughter,
