Rickey Wayne LaCour was born in Checotah, Oklahoma, on March 5,1952 to Joseph and Lois LaCour and Sister Shirley LaCour.
Rickey was raised in Checotah where he attended and graduated from Checotah High School, home of the Checotah Wildcats. While at Checotah High School he achieved many athletic accomplishments and awards in basketball and track and field, assisting the team to achieve The State Basketball Championship of 1969, where he was also awarded and honored with the status of All American Basketball Champion of the All American Sunkist Basketball tournament of 1969 – 1970.
After graduating from Checotah High School Rickey decided to expand his education by attending The University of Oklahoma where he played on the OU basketball team as a point guard. Rickey later obtained a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from The University of Central Oklahoma.
Rickey began his career at The Sheraton where he was employed as a Payroll Master, and further progressed his career by gaining employment with Kerr–McGee as a Senior Accountant for 20+ years. Rickey continued his career advancement at Bacone College as a Financial Advisor where he retired in the year of 2022.
Checotah, never forgetting their own, would in the year of 2022 honor Rickey with an induction into the Checotah Athletic Hall of Fame for his many athletic accomplishments. Rickey met and married Darlene Williams in 1982 and from that union a child Stacey LaCour was born and upon her arrival there to welcome her was a sister Christina Williams -James. Rickey's Hobbies included but not limited to mastering the Salsa and Flamenco Dance while his eyes shined as bright as stars accompanied with a smile as bright as the sun. Rickey enjoyed planting all the good things that promoted life, educating others on a good start in life, fishing, and building things with his hands. Rickey was a son of Christ shed by grace with a powerful heart as solid as gold.
Rickey transitioned this life on September 18, 2024 at his home.
Leaving to celebrate and cherish his memory: His two daughters Christina James, Stacey LaCour; and his grandchildren: Ashely Brown, Devion LaCour, Deshawn Johnson, Dejuan LaCour, Aizayah Brown, Taylor Adair, Tyler LaCour, Derrion LaCour, Nevaeh James as well as his Great
GrandChildren: Alaiya Parker, Devion Joseph LaCour Jr. and other relatives and numerous friends. Rickey, living 72 seasons of life, is preceded in transition by his parents, Joseph and Lois LaCour, and by his sister Shirley LaCour. Rickey LaCour's life has been a significant inspiration to all those who had the opportunity to meet him for he was no ordinary MAN and we are proud to share with the world his legacy.
The Final Hour for Rickey will commence on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Eleventh Hour in the most holy sanctuary of Silver Spring Baptist Church near Tiger Mountain Rd.
The Christian Committal will immediately follow the services in the Warrior Cemetery.
You may visit the funeral home in Muskogee, on Thursday, October 3, 2024 to sign the registry book for the family.
