Robert Sherman,
Jr.
January 28, 1934 – December 7, 2018
Mr. Robert Sherman, Jr., after "Four-score and Four years," surrendered to the will of the Master on Friday evening, December 7, 2018 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On January 28, 1934, a beautiful, handsome, baby boy was born in Haskell, Oklahoma to Robert and Virginia Sherman. They named him Robert Sherman, Jr.
Robert attended Booker T. Washington High School in Haskell. After graduation, he joined the United States Army. While in the Army, he met and married Corine Griffin in 1956. From this union, five children were born; Gene, Deborah, Diann, William and Neta. After receiving his Honorable Discharge from service in 1962, he returned to Haskell to start his life-long career in commercial construction.
Robert was a faithful member of Eastside First Baptist Church in Haskell, where he served the Lord faithfully as a member of the Choir and as a Deacon. In addition, we all know that Robert's favorite hobby was fishing and any sports activity that involved a ball, including golf if Tiger Woods was playing and tennis if the Williams sisters were playing. He also enjoyed hunting, especially with his family.
Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Corine, a son, Gene, a sister, Lorraine Pickett, his mother, Virginia, his father, Robert Sr., his step-mother, Luetta Sherman, a nephew, Pat Garrett and a special granddaughter, Sherrell McHenry.
He leaves in God's care to cherish his memory; his daughters, Deborah Motte, Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Diann Johnson and Neta Sherman, Tulsa, Oklahoma; his son, William Sherman, Haskell, Oklahoma; a sister, Dr. Renee LaCour, Chicago, Illinois; a brother, Don [Denise] Sherman, Wichita, Kansas; his grandchildren, Jamie [Casie] Blevins, Kansas City, Missouri, Shakeita McJunkins, Donna McJunkins, Aleecia Carter, Marie [Jay] Smith and Laura Sherman; and a host of special great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a caravan of nieces, nephews and many friends, and special children that Robert loved as his own, Donnie, Brad, Karen, Sheryl, Andrea, TK, Sonya Lee, Sherry and PJ; all who will miss his presence with us on earth.
The Hour of Celebration in memory of Mr. Sherman will commence on Saturday morning, December 15, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church of Haskell. Pastor Curtis Leland will Officiate and Pastor John Sells, will give the Eulogy. Burial with military honors will follow in the Haskell City Cemetery.
