Obituary

Mr. Robert L. Parks, a resident of Muskogee, "stepped into Glory" on Thursday afternoon, March 21, 2013 from Muskogee, Oklahoma, after 85 years of life.

Born in Oktaha, Oklahoma, on May 15, 1928, Robert Lewis Parks, affectionately known as "Ponner" was the son of the late Thomas Odell and Beulah May [Baltrip] Parks.

He attended school in Oktaha, and later Historic Manual Training High School.

At an early age, he professed a hope in Christ and was baptized, becoming a member of Greater Shiloh Baptist church, where he served the Lord in various capacities; the B.T.U., Usher Board, Brotherhood and the Men's Chorus.

Robert united in marriage with the love of his life, Mary Lou on July 29, 1947. They met through her brother, Major Threats.

Mr. Parks worked for the Taft D.B.& O., Muskogee County Courthouse for 23 years, with 6 years added for not missing any days of work. He also provided for his family through his labor in the Construction Industry in California and Kansas City, Missouri,, then for Broadway Manor Nursing Home and the Muskogee Civic Center before his retirement in 1990.

His favorite pastime was shooting pool after work. Robert and Mary raised three of her siblings, Constance Threat Perkins, Charles Threat and LaDon Threat Smith.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory; four sons, Robert [Rita] Parks, Jr., Roger [Marilyn] Parks, Gilbert Parks, Eric [Sonya] Parks; four daughte4rs, Flossie [Horace] Chandler, Sharon [Alex] Walker, Marilyn Taylor, and Latasha [David] McClain; a sister, Alberta Nelson, Tulsa, Oklahoma; a brother, Thomas Odell Parks; 18 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a caravan of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Celebration of his life will commence on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Vanzelen G. Brown, Sr., Pastor, will Preside. Burial will follow in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery.

You may visit Mr. Parks, as he slumbers in peaceful repose on Friday from 10 AM until 6 PM at the funeral home.
