Robert Louis Jenkins was born on May 30, 1938 on a farm in Hermanville, Mississippi, the son of Louis and Lizzie [Walker] Jenkins. He was born and raised by his parents in Hermanville where his father was a farmer and his mother took care of the family as a housewife.
Later, He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably from July 18, 1956 until his discharge on July 17, 1959. He spent many years in Lawton, Oklahoma before settling in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
He was married to his first wife, Vernell Dickerson, who preceded him in death. He was later married to Susie Richardson, his second wife. Better known as "Joe" to his family because as a kid, he reminded them of the boxer Joe Louis for his size and height, and additionally as "Slim" to his friends in Okmulgee, he was loved the small town feel of Okmulgee and enjoyed life. Before his retirement, he was a commercial truck driver after his military service. He loved fishing and after retiring from big rigs, he started a successful, small firewood and tree service business in Okmulgee, then later, after an unfortunate accident, he changed to mowing lawns until his health began to fail.
In his 82nd year, Robert Louis Jenkins passed away on Thursday morning, may 20, 2021 from Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Fred, Ernest, Hubert and George Jenkins.
Mr. Jenkins leaves to lament his death; his sons, Mike Revels[Jenkins], Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Mikel Revels [Jenkins], Tulsa, Oklahoma; his siblings, William [Marie]Jenkins, Bay Springs, Mississippi, Doretha [Malcolm] Parker, Chicago, Illinois, Doris Jones, Chicago, Illinois, and Mattie Needham, Chicago, Illinois; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Service of Memory for Mr. Jenkins will be on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of Peace of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., in Okmulgee. Dr. Marlon J. Coleman, Pastor of Antioch Temple of Hope will Officiate.
Burial will be on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma.
