Obituary

Mr. Robert James Wilson, in his 78th year,  was "promoted to Glory" on Thursday morning, January 19, 2017 from his home in Okmulgee.

February 4, 1938 in Okmulgee Oklahoma Charlie "O" Wilson and Chlora (Drew) Wilson had a baby boy, Robert James Wilson, he was the eldest of eleven children.

At an early age he accepted Christ. He was a member of church of the living God

He attended grade school at Attucks and entered Dunbar High School. Just prior to graduation time he joined the U.S Army Reserve in 1956 and was sent to Fort Chaffee, Arkansas for 16 weeks basic training. Following basic training he was transferred to Fort Hood at Killeen, Texas where he finished his High school requirements and graduated with the Dunbar High School class of 1958. He was sent to Ranger school at Fort Ord, California and Fort Carson Colorado then to military Police School at Fort Garden Georgia located south of Augusta. Afterwards, He was sent to every available military school on police work, security, investigation and intelligence. Robert served in every country in the world where there were military or civilian Americans including Vietnam in 1962. During his last three years of service Robert was in charge of all police activity, security, and intelligence at Fort Hood, Texas, over 17,000 men.  In 1968 he attended advanced schooling which was the same as F.B.I school. In 1984 Wilson was discharged after 22 years of military service. On February 6, 1985 Robert Wilson became the first black detective of Okmulgee until 1988 when he retired. He was devoted to his family and his friends.  Robert Wilson was the Vice President and associate minister of Okmulgee City-Wide Prayer Band, 33 rd Degree member of the Masons, and also a member of the motorcycle club Tulsa Big Wheels--he had a passion and love for motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his mother Chlora (Drew) Wilson, his father Charlie "O" Wilson, and his brother Charlie Wilson, Jr. Robert Wilson leaves to cherish his memory his wife/separated Gertrud Wilson Three sons Keith (Ericka) Rivers Okmulgee, Claud Bagby, Lawton, and James Wilson, Las Vegas, Nevada. five brothers Lawrence (Quinn) Wilson , Johnny Wilson, Willie H. Wilson, Roosevelt Wilson, Donald F. Wilson all of Okmulgee four sisters Corine Wilson, Patricia Wilson, Brenda Williams, Carolyn Wilson four granddaughters  Keianna Rivers, Vache' Thompson, Amy Wilson, Jennifer Wilson, four great grandchildren, a host of family and friends and also Betty Burnett special friend.

The Hour of Remembrance for Mr. Wilson will be on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the Church of the Living God, 1100 North Osage Avenue in Okmulgee.  Elder Wilmer Cummings, Pastor will Officiate.  Burial will follow at 12 Noon with Military Honors in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.

You may visit Mr. Wilson, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home in Okmulgee on Thursday from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
