Mr. Roland Stanford, in his 65th year, surrendered his soul to Jesus on Saturday morning, May 21, 2011 from a Tulsa hospital.
Mr. Stanford was born in Preston, Oklahoma, where he attended Preston Schools, as well as Beggs Wheatley School. He also attended Oklahoma State Unversity.
Roland lived in Tulsa for over 31 years, moving to Tulsa in 1980. He married the former Cheryl Jackson from Okmulgee and they remained united in Holy Matrimony for 29 years.
He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee, where he served the Lord faithfully as a Deacon, in the Choir and the Men's Chorus.
He provided for his family through his employment at Boeing Aircraft, laboring for 37 years before retirement.
He loved fishing, cooking, specializing in BBQ and sweet potato pies, but just enjoyed cooking. He was the "Favorite Son-in-law" [actually, the only son-in-law] to Rev. P. W. Jackson, who he enjoyed fishing with.
Brother Stanford loved to make everyone laugh. He was very good hearted and gave away everything. He was a free-hearted person and loved being around his "grand-babies".
He leaves behind a loving wife, Cheryl [Jackson] Stanford, of the home in Tulsa; his daughter, Khea Stanford, Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Raven, Amber, Derrian and Baylee Stanford; His mother, Ida Mae [Bagby] Hunt, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; his sisters, Ira Mae [Al] Bryant, Tulsa, Ernestine [Johnny] Wilson, Okmulgee and Sherilen Abraham, Dallas, Texas; along with other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
The Hour of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church, 521 North Central Avenue in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The Pastor, Reverend P. W. Jackson, Sr., will officiate. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.
