Obituary

On July 9, 1934, a baby boy was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma from the union of Sonny and Helen [Hill] Davis. They named him Roosevelt L. Davis. He was the fourth of five children in the family.

Roosevelt grew up and attended the Saint Mary Elementary School and later, Historic Manual Training High School. He met Doris Jean Ashley and they were married on December 17, 1955. From this union, seven children were born.

Mr. Davis worked in the construction industry for Tulsa Rig and Reel and Manhattan Construction, as well as other construction jobs. Later, he worked for the MKT Railroad, which merged with Union Pacific Railroad. He retired after 33 years as a Track MAintenance Supervisor.

At this time, Mr. Davis decided to become a farmer and bought a farm, raising cattle and selling hay. He did this until his health began to fail.

Mr. Davis was a member of Sanders Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and remained there until the doors were closed. His duties in the Church were serving as a Deacon as well as other offices where he was needed.

On December 12, 2014, Roosevelt L. Davis, Sr., joined the Master and has gone to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sonny and Helen Davis, his sons, Vern Lee, Robert Lee, Michael Lee and Henry Louis; his brothers, Lloyd Clark, Savannah Davis and a sister, Lucille Clark.

Loved ones that remain to lament his passing; his wife, Doris Jean, of the home in Muskogee; his children, Rose Davis, Roosevelt Davis, Jr., and Kenneth Davis; a brother, Robert Johnson [Mirtha D.]; his brother-in-law, Robert L. Armstrong [Emma]; his sister-in-law, Barbara Harlin [Joe]; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. We will meet him again someday.

The Final Hour with Mr. Davis will be shared on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Remembrance. Reverend Clarence Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery.

You may visit Mr. Davis on Friday from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
