Obituary

Roy Burleson was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 16, 1921.
He grew up in the Green Pastures addition and attended Dunbar School in Oklahoma before life led him to enlist in the United States Army.  He served  from February of 1943 until February of 1947 until his honorable discharge. Roy fought in World War II in Italy, where he was wounded twice and received a Bronze Star and two purple hearts.
He married Meda Sullivan in 1949 and from this union, one son and three daughters were born.  The family later moved to Wichita, Kansas.  Roy was the founder and operator of "Mr Squeel BBQ" until he retired.
In 2002, he moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where he attended Northside Evangelist Temple, under the leadership of the late Elder Ralph Bagby.
In 2008, Roy began to fellowship with New Beginnings Church of God in Christ in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, under the leadership of Elder Jackie Jones.  It was during this time that he married Doris Rowley.  Roy and Doris shared a beautiful relationship of marriage until his passing.  Roy called her "Honey Pie" and Doris called him "Baby."  Roy lived a wonderful life and loved his family and friends.
On Friday evening, November 29, 2019, Roy Burleson, in his 98th year, "Saw Jesus and said, Amen!"  He was preceded in death by two siblings, a son and two daughters.
He leaves to lament his transition to Glory;  his loving wife, Doris Burleson, of the home in Okmulgee, Oklahoma; his daughter, Charlotte Cowans [Claborn], Okmulgee, Oklahoma;  his brother, Louis Burleson, Wichita, Kansas; nine grandchildren;  Forty great-grandchildren; a host of great-great-grandchildren; and a caravan of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his special memory.

The Sacred Farewell for Mr. Burleson will be on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the New Beginnings Church of God in Christ.  Elder Jackie Jones, the Senior Pastor, will Preside.

Burial will follow at 1:00 PM in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma at 1:00 PM.

You may visit Mr. Burleson, as he slumbers in peaceful repose in the Chapel of Peace of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., in Okmulgee on Thursday from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
