Obituary

Roy Edward Marshall, the youngest of four sons, was born on July 29, 1944 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Jimmie L. and Charlie V. McGee Marshall. Roy attended school at Dunbar Elementary, Central Junior High and graduated from Lawton Senior High School in 1962. Although he never attended Douglass High School, he became a welcomed and loved member of the Lawton Douglass Alumni Association. He often planned his schedule around being able to attend the bi-annual reunion. There, he enjoyed the fellowship and camaraderie of his friends from all the way back to elementary school.

Roy was united in marriage to his college sweetheart, Marilyn F. Collins, on October 9, 1966. They were blessed with two daughters: Lisa V. Marshall Johnson (Tommy L., III) and Joyce E. Marshall Johnson (G. Ashley), all residing in Houston, Texas.

After graduating from Southwestern College, Roy began his professional career in housing and urban development with the Lawton Urban Renewal Authority in 1966. In 1968, he joined HTB (Hudgins, Thompson & Ball) Architects Engineers & Planners in Tulsa, Oklahoma as an Urban Redevelopment Planner, Planner Division. Roy was Operations Officer for Tulsa Urban Renewal Authority (TURA) in April, 1971. Eventually, TURA merged with the City of Tulsa. Roy was Division Manager with the City of Tulsa from 1981 until his retirement in 2007.

Roy enjoyed his many friends and he was a very caring person with a strong desire to help others. His love of family was first and foremost. He was a devoted father and husband who was committed to always looking out for his wife and daughters.

Roy was an avid sportsman with a passion for bird hunting. He has been described as "a stalwart member of the northeast Oklahoma upland hunting and gun dog community". He was a 20 year member of the Tulsa Bird Dog Association where he also served as Treasurer. Roy was a season ticket holder with the WNBA Tulsa Shock.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother, Carl L. Marshall (Don Deloris). In addition to his daughters and sons-in-law, others to celebrate his life and cherish his memories are: two brothers, Arnold J. Marshall (Pat) of Austin, Texas and Herbert E. Marshall of Meeker, Oklahoma; two aunts, five nephews, five nieces, five great-nephews, six great-nieces, three grandchildren, one great-grandson, a host of other relatives and many precious friends. Roy is also survived by his beloved four-legged hunting companions, Randolph and Rocket.
