Obituary

On May 15, 1927, a baby girl was born from the union of Amos Alexander, Sr., and Mary Miles in Okmulgee. They named this bundle of joy, Ruby Leoma Alexander.


Ruby joined New Salem Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member. She served as head of the usher board for 37 years. Ruby was employed at the Okmulgee County Health Department for 33 years before her retirement. She was well known for her delicious cooking, was a hairdresser, seamstress and mother to many.


On Wednesday, April 28, 2010, Ruby L. Hutton, in her 82nd year, dozed into Eternal Rest from her home in Okmulgee. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Earl Alexander and a sister, Mary Ruthe Motte.


Remaining to lament her passing; her son, Roy D'Wayne Whiteside [Lorraine], Okmulgee; her siblings, Amos Alexander, Jr.{Mattie], Tulsa, Oklahoma, Clarence Alexander, Okmulgee, Gladys Bennett, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Geneva Alexander, Okmulgee; her grandchildren, Crystall Whiteside, LaShon Tuggle [Marque] and Brad Simon; her great-grandchildren, Jaylon Ross, Adrian Tuggle, Aaliyah Tuggle and Ashley Tuggle; a special nephew, Jerry Barnes; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other friends.


The Hour of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the New Salem Baptist Church. Reverend Willie Antwine, Sr., the gracious host Pastor, Officiant, and Reverend McKinley Rice, Eulogist. The Christian Committal will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Services directed by the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.

You may visit Mrs. Hutton, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
