Mrs. Ruby Mae Simmons, after 75 seasons, "left with Angels, to thine place of rest" on Thursday, late afternoon, December 11, 2008 from Muskogee Regional Medical Center.
She was born in the Blackjack community of Taft, Oklahoma, the daughter of Hubert and Modest [Buggs] Simmons. She grew up and attended school in Taft, in Moton Public Schools.
She was a member of Flipper Chapel AME Church before moving to Muskogee and uniting with Central Missionary Baptist Church. She served the Lord faithfully as an Usher, with the Women's Mission, the Ruth Circle and the Adult Choir. Ms. Simmons was truly devoted to her family, always willing to help and give whatever she had to others.
Ms. Simmons worked for over 10 years as a cook at Moton High School in Taft and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Wanda K. Simmons, a son, Roosevelt Pratt, a grandson, Serome Pratt, 4 sisters and a brother.
The tribute will be on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Central Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Ray K. Gaines, Pastor, will officiate. The Christian Committal will follow in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee.
