Obituary

Mr. Rufus Lavonn Presley was born on June 5, 1949 in Kansas City, Kansas and was the oldest of three boys. Rufus was raised by his mother, Anna Jo Green and his grandparents, George and Lucinda McNeal in Eufaula, Oklahoma. It was there in Eufaula, that he received his education, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School.


Rufus then matriculated to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where he graduated with a degree in Business. He then earned his Master's Degree in Business Personnel in California, shortly thereafter.


After completing college, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country honorably until his retirement, after attaining the rank of Major. He served several tours over seas during his 20 years of service.


While he was attending college at N.S.U., he met the love of his life, Edna Mae Walker. They fell in love and he convinced her to be his wife. They remained locked in Holy Matrimony for 37 years.


After his retirement from the Air Force, Rufus began another career with the Texas Education Agency. He worked for 18 years in the Driver Training Division, as a Program Specialist until his death.


He also served the Lord faithfully at Reflections of Christ Kingdom [ROCK] in Austin, Texas under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Dana Carson and Minister Charles A. Moody.


After 60 wonderful seasons, Rufus Lavonn Presley "heard a voice from Heaven" on Saturday, March 6, 2010 and surrendered his soul to Jesus in Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Green, and his grandparents, George and Lucinda McNeal.


Those that wait on the Lord; his devoted wife, Edna; his children, Twyla [Judge] Cantrell, San Francisco, California, Dominic Fabian Sinesion, New York City, Leon Presley, Austin, Texas, and Heather Presley, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, his step-father, Anthony Green; two brothers, Marvin [Cindy] Williams, and Anthony Green, Jr., all of Kansas City, Kansas; six brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; an Uncle, Johnny McNeal, Kansas City, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.


The Final Salute will be on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. in the Greater Rayfield Baptist Church of Muskogee. Reverend Leroy Walker, Sr., Pastor, Officiating and Minister Charles A. Moody, Pastor of Reflections of Christ Kingdom ROCK of Austin, Texas, Eulogist.

Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Cane Creek Cemetery at Boynton, Oklahoma.

You may visit Mr. Presley, as he slumbers in repose at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 AM to 7PM, with the family present to receive friends from 6 PM to 7 PM.
