Reflecting On the Life of...
Russell Edward Wordlow

Russell E. Wordlow was born in Texarkana, Texas, on September 12, 1948, to John H. Wordlow and Geneva Reese Lewis. He was the baby brother to Alberta Jackson, Jamesetta Welch, and James Lewis. Jamesetta along with his parents preceded him in death.

In 1966, he graduated from Manual Training High School. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Marine Corps Reserve Forces Class III and served honorably in the Vietnam War. While serving our nation, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Rifle Marksman Badge, and a Good Conduct Medal.

In 1968, Russell married Cheryl Nesbitt-Adkins, and to their union, they were blessed with four girls, Rosalyn, Ruschelle, Rana, and Renita. Though their marriage dissolved after many years, they remained friends even in his passing.

Russell was a lover of the arts. He was very talented, and his gifts included playing the clarinet, saxophone, and piano. He received an arts degree from Westark Community College. Russell was a devoted member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Muskogee.

Mr. Russell Wordlow, in his 74th year, transitioned from "Labor to Refreshment" on Saturday morning, November 12, 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Russell leaves to cherish his memory: his daughters, Rosalyn Brown (Stevie), Rana McVay (Marcus), and Renita Wordlow; sister, Alberta; brother, James; fourteen grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Jeremy Wordlow, sister, Jamesetta, and daughter, Ruschelle.
