Obituary

A tribute of remembrance is planned for Mrs. Ruth Foreman Carter on Thursday, December 14, 2006 in the Sanctuary of the Eastside Baptist Church, corner of 3rd Street and Osage Avenue in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The Gracious Host Pastor, Reverend Eddie Davis, Sr., will Officiate. The Christian Committal will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Okmulgee.

Mrs. Carter, after 86 seasons, dozed into eternity on Wednesday morning, December 6, 2006 from the comfort of her home in Okmulgee, with her devoted daughter and caregivers at her side to witness.

Sister Ruth was born in Okmulgee on November 15, 1920, the precious daughter of Homer Milton Foremand and Effie Brady Foreman. She grew up in Okmulgee, where she attended Banneker Grade School and graduated from Historic Dunbar High School with the Class of 1940. She attended Langston University, and after earning her degree, she returned to teach elementary education at Banneker for 8 years, before re-locating to Illinois, where she taught for 22 years prior to her retirement in 1982.

Mrs. Carter returned to Okmulgee in 1982, from Hopkins Park, Illinois. She served the Lord faithfully at Eastside Baptist Church, where she was the Mother of the Church and a member of the Mission.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burney Simon Holland, her parents and a brother. Remaining to wait on the Lord; her daugher, Effie Bernadine Holland; her son, Che-Bon and Diane Blue Eagle, all of Okmulgee; 3 granddaughters, Sakena and Allery Williams, Hammond, Indiana, Niktaha Blue Eagle, St. Louis, Missouri, and Cate' Blue Eagle, Okmulgee; 2 grandsons, Micko Holland, Che-Bon Blue Eagle, Jr., all of Okmulgee; 1 great-grandson, Juaquin Marque' Holland, Okmulgee; 1 great-great- granddaughter, Kayla Ariel Williams, Hammond, Indiana; a sister, Rebecca Hanson; her very best friend, Barbara Grey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, along with the Eastside Baptist Church family.

You may visit Mrs. Carter, as she slumbers at the funeral home in Okmulgee on Wednesday from 10 AM until 6 PM.
