On July 17, 1920, Samuel Brown was born in Haskell, Oklahoma to Willie and Cora Simmons Brown, the 5th of 7 children born to this family. He spent his school days at Simmons and Booker T. Washington High School in Haskell, Oklahoma.
After school, he enlisted in the United States Army , where he served during World War II prior to his honorable discharge. Mr. Brown was always extremely proud of his service to his country and was an avid member of the American Legion.
For many years, he labored faithfully at Oklahoma Steel Casting in Tulsa, where he never missed a day and always arrived early.
Sam, as he was affectionately referred to by family and friends, was a jovial, fun-loving person, who shared joy everywhere he went. To know him was to love him. He loved to talk and share his years of accumulated wisdom. He committed his life to Christ and became a loyal member of Simmons Chapel Baptist Church. He loved prayer, and was esteemed highly as the church father.
He leaves a loving family, church family and many dear friends who will forever remember his presence.
The final salute will be on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Simmons Chapel Baptist Church, Haskell, Oklahoma. Reverend James M. Phillips, Pastor, will officiate. Interment, with Military Honors will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
You may visit Mr. Brown, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc, of Muskogee on Thursday from 12 Noon to 6 PM. The Casket will not be opened at the Church on Friday.
