Sara Ann Moton Jones was born on June 13, 1905 to William and Biddie Moton in Spiro, Oklahoma, the older of two children. She was called to Heaven on May 21, 2007 at the age of 101.
On April 5, 1923, at the age of 19, she united in marriage to Albert Jones. Over the next 10 years, Sara and her husband lived in several southeastern Oklahoma towns, before settling in McAlester, where they made their home in 1933. There, she became a member of the Church of Christ.
Although there were no children born to this union, they raised their 2 month old, great-nephew, Ira "Bubba" Moton, Jr., as their son. The sun set and shined on her "Bubba."
Later in life, she was moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where her son and his wife, Johnetta, took care of her, providing tender love and precious care until her death. They tended to her needs and met all of her wishes.
Mother Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Jones, her father, mother and brother.
She leaves to lament her departure from us; her son, Ira Moton and wife, Johnetta; 2 nieces, Argertha Curtis and Dorthula Moton, both of McAlester, Oklahoma; a great nephew, Alonzo Moton and wife Jocelyn, Tulsa, Oklahoma; a great-niece, Ernestine Alexander, Atoka, Oklahoma; a special great-great nephew and niece, Kevin Moton and wife Sherry, San Diego, California and Aelicia Moton, Muskogee, Oklahoma; a very special great-great-great niecea and nephew, LaTara and Cody Moton; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
