Mrs. Sarah M. White, in her 96th year, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, September 21, 2021 from Muskogee, Oklahoma.
" This is my story......."
I was born in Baconton, Georgia to Lucille Bradley and Judson Mansfield on January 23, 1925 and I was the second child. After the death of my father, my mother decided to move to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where her older brother, Frank Bradley had established himself.
In 1930, my mother, my brother, Woodrow and I arrived and settled in a house Uncle Frank had rented for us. Mother met and married Ira McBee and established her own grocery store. Not long after that, my uncle built us our own home. My brother and I worked in the grocery stor after school.
In 1937 at the age of 12, I joined Rayfield Baptist Church and served as Mission teacher for a number of years. After graduating high school in 1942, I attended went to college to further my education.
Needless to say, after graduating from Langston University, I came home jobless. The United States was at war. My mother arranged for me to go stay with her friend's daughter in Seattle, Washington. I worked in the ship yard as a welder. After the war, I returned back home.
One of my professors at Lnagston, L. R. Kirkpatric had become principal at Manual Training High School. I applied for the office job that later led to the position of Kirkpatrick's secretary until a teaching position pened up in business. I finally got a position but my free time was spent in the office working with commencement activities. I worked at Manual until integration and I was assigned to Muskogee High School.
During this time, I enrolled in Northeastern State University and acquiring my Master's Degree, met and married my only husband, Earnest White and moved to California, where we lived for ten years. We returned to Muskogee, where I was fortunate to acquire ajob at Indian Capital Vo-Tech and Connors State College. I retired in 2005 at the age of 80.
I was blessed to work as coordinator of a Master's of Education program at Pepperdine Univerity Graduate School. I have traveled to all 50 states and I was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., since 1949. L. A. and Muskogee member of the Chrysanthemum Club.
My hobbies were crossword puzzles as well as multiple choice questions. May the works I've done speak for me.
Those left ot cherish my memory; my nieces, Eleanor Sue [Percy] Bradfield, Grandview, Missouri and Marsha [Cleon] Montgomery, Orlando, FLorida; step-sons, Eric White, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Gregory [Shannon] White, Apollo Beach, Florida; and my special friend, Opal McDaniel, Muskogee, Oklahoma; along with other relatives and friends.
