Sherman was born in Lexington on July 10, 1943, but the family moved to Chicago, Illinois during his formative years. Thus, Sherman was raised and educated in Chicago with his younger sister the late Emma Pearl (Brown) Jackson.

He served as a devoted Associate Pastor at Northwest Chapel, Pleasant Hill Baptist and Mt Zion Baptist. Sherman served as Pastor at King Solomon Baptist until having health challenges. Upon recuperation, he joined and served faithfully until his transition at Jubilee Christian Center.
