On January 16, 2018, Shermita "She-She" Mills, in her 58th year with us, transitioned from "Earth to Everlasting" to be with the Lord, with her loving family by her side.
Shermita was the sixth child born to Vivian Scott Mills on September 20, 1959 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. At an early age, she united with New Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Joseph Ballard and was baptized.
Shermita attended Muskogee Public Schools, including Alice Robertson Junior High School and graduated from Muskogee High School. She later attended Connors State College. She was employed by the Veterans Administration Medical Center as an Engineering Secretary for several years and also worked as a Social Worker for Monarch and Kid's Space.
Preceding her departure to rest was her grandparents, Gertrude and Sam Scott, her Uncle, Vernon Scott, Aunts, Jewel, Ernestine and Ollie Mae Scott, a brother, J. C. Mills, Jr., and a person she fondly called dad, Elmer Brewer.
Those left to cherish her memory; Her son, Joseph Ballard, III [Jenny], Joplin, Missouri; her daughter, Shonda Terell Jackson, Muskogee, Oklahoma; the love of her life, Chris McBride; her grandchildren, Anisa Love and Tryston Johnson, "My Baby" as she fondly called him, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Jayla, Joseph and Jackson Ballard, Joplin, Missouri, and Jae'la Payne, Muskogee, Oklahoma; her mother, Vivian Mills, Muskogee, Oklahoma; her sisters, Lerliese Mills and Regina Mills, Muskogee, Oklahoma, LaRita Sheppard [Roschan], Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her brothers, James Mills [Arlene], Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Edward Mills [Roslyn], Upland, California, and Terrance Mills, Muskogee, Oklahoma; her nieces and nephews, Jerald Mills [Aretha], Arlington, Texas, Jerome Mills [Sharon], Newnna, Georgia, LaKisha Sheppard, San Antonio, Texas, Roschan Sheppard II, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Sheree Mills, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Jarred Mills, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Shalake Lenzy, Muskogee, Oklahoma; along with a host of cousins, other relatives and friends that touched her life and will miss her.
A time to reflect will commence on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. in the most holy sanctuary of the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Gary Mitchum, Senior Pastor, will Preside. The Christian Committal will follow the worship service in the sacred grounds of the Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee.
