In the summer of 1964, the union of Hoy Sterling Cullom and Ida Chaplin was blessed with a baby girl on July 18th in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They named her Shirl LaRue.
Shirl grew up in the Muskogee area and attended school at Moton High School in Taft. While at Moton, she played basketball for the championship girls team.
After school, Shirl went on to attend Virgils Beauty College in Muskogee. Shirl loved to cook and gained employment at Hilldale School as a cook in the School Kitchen from 1998 until 2008. She then began her employment at the Oklahoma School for the Blind from 2008 to present.
She always put others needs before hers and was a very caring, loving and fun woman. She enjoyed going to watch her two sons play football at Hilldale High School every Friday night and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
After 47 years with us, Shirl LaRue Cullom transitioned from "Earth to Glory" on March 9, 2012 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
