Shirley Ann Surratt, a wonderful Mother, Sister, Auntie, Cousin and Friend, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the young age of 64 years in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Shirley was born on March 12, 1955 in Muskogee, Oklahoma from the union of Woodrow Surratt, Sr., and Theola Kathryn Surratt. She was a graduate of Porter High School, where she won the Ms. Peach Pageant in Porter, Oklahoma.
At an early age, Shirley was so much fun to be with and full of laughter. She grew up with her brothers and sisters; Johnny /Booker, Odis Booker, Frances Bass, Woodrow Surratt, J.r, Lois Jean Surratt, Herman Surratt and Betty Surratt. +In 1973, Shirley moved to Los Angeles, California, where she met Sherman Bass and had her first love, Sheldon Jay Surratt on May 30, 1975 in Los Angeles. She brought her baby boy home to Oklahoma in 1978, where she began to lay her roots.
Shirley met and married her ex-husband, Joe Carter and from this union, a beautiful, baby girl was born, Trina Joe Carter on September 19, 1990 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Shirley provided for her family through her employment by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority for 17 years. She immersed herself into her family, caring for her father and mother with great affection until their last days. She was also a devoted mother and her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and in-laws were the stars in her sky.
Shirley enjoyed traveling, clothes, concerts, cooking, the casino, big gatherings at home, but she loved the Lord the most! Some of her attributes were her compassion, her soft spoken words and her kindness to all. Everyone knew and loved Shirley. She was the type of person you could call on and she would be there in a split second to see about you.
Shirley was very active in Church and loved having fun with family and friends. She was the epitome of grace and had a beautiful sense of style. We loved her but God loves her best. Her smile and laughter was contagious. Enough cannot be said about her goodness and she will be missed indescribably by her family, friends and all that knew her.
Welcoming Shirley home to her Heavenly Mansion in the sky; her parents, Woodrow and Katherine Surratt, Sr.; her brothers, Charles Surratt, Johnny Booker and Odis Booker; and her sisters, Frances Bass and Lois Jean Surratt.
Shirley leaves in God's care; her Cub's, Trina Carter and Sheldon [Hailee] Surratt; her grandchildren, Sheldonna Jay Surratt, Shelkayla Johnson Surratt, Trinity Kissire Surratt; her brothers and sisters; Woodrow [Mary] Surratt, Jr., Herman [Keri] Surratt and Betty Surratt [Van]; her nieces and nephews, Bryan Surratt, Chris Surratt, Latasha Surratt, Jayvon Bass, Jay Bass, Junior Surratt, Mario Surratt and Gloria Surratt; along with a caravan of great-nieces, great-nephews, other family members and friends.
A Service Celebrating her life will commence on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the most Holy sanctuary of Eastland Assembly, 12310 East 21st Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Reverend Randy Dyer, Pastor, will officiate and Reverend Nelson Ross, Sr., Eulogist. Burial will follow in the Lincoln Cemetery in Porter, Oklahoma.
