Sidney A. Lewis Sr., a longtime resident of Beggs Oklahoma passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 19, 2020 at the age of 92. Sidney was born on October 16, 1927 in Edna, Oklahoma to Fredrick Lewis Sr. and Euella Pitre. Sidney would be her only child as she passed away 6 months after his birth.

In his youth Sidney enjoyed reading, solving math problems and playing basketball while attending school at historic L'Ouverture High School in Slick Oklahoma. Afterward Sidney went on to graduate from Okmulgee Technical School, Okmulgee as a Automobile Body and Fender repairman.
On April 13, 1953 Sidney married Erma Jean Cole. To this long lasting union 5 children were born. Sidney loyally worked for Toyota of Tulsa until he retired after 35 years of employment.

Before his retirement Sidney rarely missed a day of work for any reason. Upon his retirement Sidney enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sidney also enjoyed spending time in the woods cutting firewood with his longtime friend, Joe Johnson Sr. Sidney was an avid reader including the bible and loved watching sports, especially basketball and golf.

He was a regular at courtside for local games involving his family and listened by radio when he could not attend.
When Sidney was moved to give his life to Christ, he joined the Tuskegee Baptist Church, Edna Okla. under Rev. Elijah Nash Sr. Shortly after that time Sidney was ordained as a church deacon. Later on, he would become a member of the First Baptist Church South in Beggs Okla. where he was a member at his death.

Sidney passed away while a resident at the Rebold Manor care facility in Okmulgee with his family close by. Preceding Sidney in death were his mother Euella, his father Fredrick Sr., a brother Fredrick Jr., grandmother/guardian Rose Pitre Shaw and close cousin Ervin Cole.
Sidney leaves to mourn his passing Erma Jean, his loving wife of 67 years, Two daughters: Sandra (Johnny) Lewis of Tulsa, Angela (Mike Sr.) James of Okmulgee, Three sons: Gregory (Gwen) Lewis of Beggs, Sidney Jr. (Tammy) of Okmulgee, and Marion Lewis of Tulsa. 1 sister: Carol Davis of Kansas City, MO. and 1 Brother: Douglas Lewis of Tulsa. He also leaves a legacy of 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and countless friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Sidney Lewis, Sr. will be Saturday February 29, 2020 at 11AM at First Baptist South in Beggs.

Interment will follow at Tuskegee Cemetery in Edna, Oklahoma.

Friends may visit Mr. Lewis on Friday from 1PM until 6PM in The Okmulgee Chapel.
