Son and Ollie Mae Taylor, Sr., were blessed with a bouncing, baby boy in Morris, Oklahoma on August 25, 1936. He was given the name Son Taylor, Jr.
Son grew up and attended Grayson Public Schools in Okmulgee County. He met the love of his life, Norma Jean Wilson and they were united in holy matrimony. Their loving union was blessed with two children.
After completing high school, he attended Langston University before enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country honorably, where he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas for many years before his retirement from the Army. During his stellar service, he earned many accolades and medals of honor and bravery. In the early 1990's, he moved his family to Okmulgee, Oklahoma. where he remained for the rest of his life.
He continued to be active and work, although he had retired from military service. He worked for Creek Forest Apartments, heading the maintenance department, along with many other jobs. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and also maintained the church property.
Mr. Taylor was a family man, who loved providing for his family and enjoying family gatherings. Many laughs and good times were shared in the family home, regardless of age, all were welcome to fellowship. He was very giving and protective and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
After "Fourscore Years" with us on Earth, Son Taylor, Jr., received his "Heavenly Discharge" from the Commander in Heaven! He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and his loving wife, Norma Jean.
Those that wait on the Lord; his son, Marvin Taylor [Blenda], Muskogee, Oklahoma; his daughter, Angela Lovett [Samuel], Okmulgee, Oklahoma; his brother, Edward Taylor, Houston, Texas; his sister, Emma Lee Wakefield, Los Angeles, California; his special niece, Quinta Stewart-Willis [Frank], Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his two grandson, Jalen Taylor and Marvin Taylor, Jr.; along with other relatives and friends to cherish his loving memory.
The Final Salute will commence on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the most Holy sanctuary of the St. Matthew Baptist Church. Reverend McKinley Rice, Sr., is the gracious host Pastor and Reverend Carl G. Morgan, Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Haskell, Oklahoma, will give the Eulogy.
The Christian Committal will follow the service at 1:00 PM in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, with Full Military Honors.
You may visit Mr. Taylor, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home in Okmulgee on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
