…."Reflections…."
On January 17, 1932, in Beggs, Oklahoma, a bouncing baby was born to Williams Owens and Eva Mae Johnson. They named their brand new baby boy, Sterling. Mr. Owens would later move to Tulsa and married Evelyn "Jean" Sears.
Sterling enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching boxing. He also loved to tell jokes and sing old songs. It went hand in hand with his great sense of humor. Sterling was a very loving man, who never met a stranger.
After 30 years of dedicated service, "Big Cat" retired from the City of Tulsa. As Sterling's health began to fail, God saw the road was getting rough, and that the hill was hard to climb. On February 15, 2007, Mr. Owens gently closed his eyes and whispered "Peace at Last."
Sterling leaves to cherish his precious memories; his lovely wife of the home, Evelyn, three daughters; Sandra "Wiggle" Owens, Tulsa, OK., Marsha "Cookie" Sears, and Leatta "Bug" Lewis, Tulsa, OK., 1 son; Bobby Lampkin, Beggs, OK., one sister; Dorothy Killion, Tulsa, OK., 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Mr. Owens will be Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 1PM in the All Faiths Chapel in Tulsa, and the ceremony will conclude with the Christian Committal at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit "Big Cat" as he slumbers at the All Faiths Chapel on Wednesday from 10AM until 7PM.
