IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stevie "Monk"
Earl Perry, Sr.
December 3, 1963 – December 28, 2020
Stevie's journey through life began on December 3, 1964, when he was born to Joann Perry and Charles Selmon. Stevie was known to his friends as "Monk" or "Disco." He always had a love for sports, which he continued to enjoy to the very end. Even as he lay in his bed, ESPN was the only channel the television was allowed to be on.
At an impressionable age, Stevie attended Mt. Zion Church of God and Christ with his mother and family. He was baptized as a teenager at First Baptist Church Central. Later in life, as he made his conversion back to Christianity, he became a faithful servant at St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his childhood friend, Pastor McKinley Rice.
Stevie attended Okmulgee Public School, and graduated with the senior class of 1983. He and his classmates have always shared a special bond as they have maintained close relationships over the years. He furthered his education at Central State University and at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology.
Stevie was joined in marriage to Donna Sherlene Johnson on November 23, 2003. They celebrated their 17th anniversary this year. In this union, they were known to many family members as "Ma and Pa," due to the love and sacrifices that they made for family over the years.
Mr. Stevie "Monk" Perry, in his 57th year, transitioned to sweet rest on Monday evening, December 28, 2020 from his home in Okmulgee.
Stevie was preceded in death by one brother, John F. Perry, and one sister, LaDonna Williams.
Stevie leaves to cherish his memories: his parents, Charles Selmon and Joann Mangum; wife, Donna Perry; son, Stevie Earl Perry, Jr.; step-sons, Kendall, Donnie, and Eric Johnson; one step-daughter, Domonique Cooks; three brothers, Stanley Reason, Aaron Perry, and Josh Penn (Red); six sisters, Debra Lewis, Vivian Reason, Texanna James, Michelle McCargo, Charlotte Selmon, and Saundra McCargo-Revan; and a special cousin Shlia Martin; he also leaves to cherish his memories his grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
You may visit "Monk," as he slumbers in peaceful repose on Thursday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM and also on Saturday, from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM in the Chapel of Peace of the funeral home in Okmulgee.
A Graveside Ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Reverend McKinley Rice, Pastor of St. Matthew's Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow.
