Obituary

Ms. Thelma Jean Davis, after 87 years, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, December 4, 2020 from Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Thelma Jean Ray Davis was born to Edna and Homer Ray on May 5, 1932 in Fort Gibson Oklahoma. She was the oldest of six children. She attended school at Lincoln High were she excelled in many subjects. She was excellent at reciting poetry and public speaking. One of her best performances was reciting "The Party" by Paul Laurence Dunbar. She received a full scholarship to Langston University. She later attended Northeastern State University.

She met and married Ray Lamont Davis Sr. She had seven children. She was extremely talented and a master chef. She enjoyed cooking and showcased her skills in several schools and businesses in Muskogee. This love led her to teaching homemakers to cook with the OSU Extension Program.


Mama T. (as she was affectionately called) was loved by most everyone she met. She always fed the neighborhood. She often had orders and request for her famous cakes and pies. She was very creative. She made dresses for her children. She also created most of the costumes for the many productions at Dunbar Elementary School.


Thelma was a member of Spencer United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Homer Ray Jr. and Clifford Ray Sr. two sisters Allie Mae Ray and June Ray.

She leaves to cherish her memory her 5 daughters Arêtes "Sugar Lump" Brookings (Douglass), Debra HorseChief (Sam), Angela Ford (John), Thelmita "Teri" Davis, and Freeda Wiles (Cornell). Two sons Ray Davis Jr. (Valerie) and Rodney Davis. Seven sisters –Doris Ray Johnson, Shirley, Wilma Ray, Geraldine Travis, Charlene Wilson, Gwendolyn Tucker, and Loretta "Plum" Suttles. One brother Joe Ray. 21 Grandchildren, 44 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren , a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

You may visit "Mama T" as she slumbers in sweet repose at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM.

The Sacred Farewell for Mrs. Davis will commence on Saturday, 2:00 PM in the People's Chapel of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc.  Pastor Stephen Wiley will officiate.

Masks are mandatory during visitation and also at the service. Friends are kindly asked to wait until the family is seated before entering the Chapel on Saturday afternoon. The funeral home staff will assist in this request.
