Obituary

On January 21, 1931 a precious baby girl was delivered to Henry and Devella Smith in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They named her Thelma Devella. A lifelong resident of Tulsa, she attended Booker T. Washington Elementary, Carver Middle School, and Booker T. Washington High School graduating with the class of 1949.

She met Edward Honeycutt in 1948. To their union, a daughter Cecelia Ann was born. She also raised a stepson, Mr. Glendale Sanders. Thelma was baptized at Vernon A.M.E. Church and served the church until 1991. She was employed at Mrs. Jackson's and at Tulsa Public Schools. She retired in 1983. Her time of rest began Monday, June 29, 2009 in Tulsa.

Preceding her in death, her husband, Edward Honeycutt, parents Devella and Henry Smith, and brothers Vernon and Burdette Smith. Remaining to cherish her precious memories: her son Glendale Sanders, Los Angeles, CA., Cecelia Ann Honeycutt, Tulsa, OK., two sisters: Josephine Monroe, Los Angeles, CA., Dorothy Carter, Tulsa, OK., two sister in-laws: Mildred Tucker, Greensboro, North Carolina, Lois Jefferson, Richmond, VA., one daughter in-law, Patricia Sanders, Los Angeles, CA. two grandchildren: Valencia Sanders, Los Angeles, CA., and Davon Sanders, Los Angeles, CA., one great-granddaughter Aurijanny Sanders, Los Angeles, CA., two cousins: Tiny Hopson, and Evough Hatcher, Tulsa, OK., close friends Faye Williamson, Louise Jetton, Jerry and Tisha Jennings, Lois Gilkey, Doris Moses, all of Tulsa, OK., nephews, Paul Carter, Earl Carter, Tulsa, OK., Verl and Nancy Carter, Bremerton, WA., and Mrs. Honeycutt's dog, Kattie, along with other friends and relatives.

Services will be Monday July 7, 2009 at 10AM in the All Faiths Chapel. You may visit Mrs. Honeycutt on Sunday from 2PM-5PM.
