Mr. Thessely D. Massey, in his 65th season of life, was "beckoned by the Master" on Thursday morning, September 3, 2015 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On September 27, 1946, James and Mable [Mass] Massey celebrated the birth of a son in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. They named him Thessley Douglas Massey.
Thessely grew up in Okmulgee, where he attended Okmulgee Public Schools, culminating with his graduation from Historic Dunbar High School with the Class of 1968.
Mr. Massey worked for McDonald-Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, Oklahoma for over 25 years. In 1992, he began selling BBQ from his BBQ Trailer, which ultimately led to the opening of Massey's BBQ Restaurant at 4th and Wood Drive.
Thessely had a great passion for motorcycles before he opened his restaurant. Better known as "Big D", he used to drag race his bikes all over the area.
Mr. Massey was also involved in many civic activities, serving his community and supporting many different projects and committees. His out-going personality and friendship to many will be greatly missed. The CIty of Okmulgee has lost a great community supporter and businessman.
He leaves in God's care; his son, Tyrone Brown Massey, Memphis, Tennessee and his daughter, Mallory Massey, Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Massey, Texas and two sisters, Gwendolyn Bryant and Wilma Cain, Glendale, Arizona; two cousins that he was raised with, Louis Mass, III and Ronald Mass; a special friend, Susan Jones, Texas; along with other relatives and many, many friends.
The Funeral Mass for Mr. Massey will be celebrated on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in the St. Anthony Catholic Church. Father Joshua E. Litwack will be the Celebrant.
Burial will follow in the Massey Family Cemetery.
You may visit Mr. Massey, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home in Okmulgee on Friday from 12 Noon until 7:00 PM. The Casket will not be opened at the Church on Saturday.
