James as he was affectionately called by JoAnn married his "Sweetheart" JoAnn Hinex in 1957. To this union were born 4 children. Rechinda, Cynthia, Thomas Jr. and Anthony. He retired from Ford Glass Plant, Tulsa, Oklahoma after 23 years.

In 1964 Thomas and JoAnn and family joined Antioch. Thomas served in many capacities at Antioch from janitor to Deacon Coordinator, Usher Board President, and Men's Auxiliary President. He was the chairperson of the finance clerks, served on the finance committee, sang in the Men's choir, and Senior Adult Choir, and was the Armor Bearer to Reverend C.L. Potter and Reverend M.C. Potter.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 61 years JoAnn, his daughters Rechinda Samilton, Dallas, Tx., Cynthia Samilton, Dallas, Tx., sons Thomas J. Samilton, Jr., (Shantale), Anthony Samilton (Lisa), daughter Elizabeth Blackshire (Bobby), brother Edward Samilton (Willene), and a host of grand-children, great grand-children, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in his transition by his parents and 6 siblings.
