Obituary

On February 3, 1936, Otis Calvin and Ella [Whitley] Smith, Sr., celebrated the birth of a daughter in Baltimore, Maryland. She was named Thomasina Cecilia.

Thomasina spent her formative years as a child in Washington, North Carolina, where she was educated at Mother Mercy Catholic School. While in school, she worked in Private home as a "Nanny" taking care of the children. She went to Bost, later, moving to Brooklyn, New York, where she met Otis "Fats" Logan in the 1960's. Later, she began employment at Kings County Hospital, first as a housekeeping aid and then working as an Office Aid, continuing in that capacity until 1991.

She furthered her education and earned her degree from LaGuardia Community College in Queens, New York in Childcare. She then began to operate her own child care agency from 1991 until 1993 after relocating to Muskogee with her late husband

After returning to Muskogee, Thomasina worked for Tower Hill Nursing Home as a cook and also at Eastgate Nursing Home as a cook and also as a volunteer.

Mrs. Logan was a member of the Gardenia Club, where she was a very active member. She loved her membership with this organization. She also loved being an active member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Oktaha, with her family. Her favorite past time was gardening, flowers, reading her Bible, attending Church and most of all, she loved kids.

After 78 years, Mrs. Thomasina Cecilia Logan left this life for a life eternal from her home on Thursday, October 2, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three siblings, Shirley Wallace, William "Bubba" Smith and Charles Smith. Those family members remaining to lament her passing; her children, Glenda Reed, Chesterfield, Virginia, Charlene Smith, Brooklyn, New York, Odis "Jimmy" Smith, North Carolina, Otis Logan, Jr., and Christopher Logan, both of Muskogee, Oklahoma; 20 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

The Sacred Farewell will commence on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the New Hope Baptist Church of Oktaha, Oklahoma. Reverend Michael Logan, Pastor, Officiating.

Burial will follow in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee. You may visit Mrs. Logan, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the funeral home on Friday from 12 Noon until 6:00 PM.
