Mr. Tommy L. Davis, after three score and ten years, "responded to the beckoning of the Lord" on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Born on August 17, 1939 in Taft, Oklahoma, Tommy was the youngest of seven children born from the union of Joe and Gertrude [White] Davis.
Tommy is remembered to be an excellen student during his school age years and a tremendous basketball player for Moton High School in Taft, Oklahoma.
Shortly after graduation, Tommy joined the United States Army, where he served his country honorably for 2 years, 11 months and 24 days of active service. When he returned to civilian life, he chose to travel the country before making Tulsa, Oklahoma his home.
Tommy was known as a quiet man. He decided to add voice to his life on July 11, 1974, when he married the love of his life, Ruth A. Woods. He was noted as saying that he was drawn to her for being outspoken and honest. She completed his life; he adored his "Ruth Ann" and cherished her love and friendship for over 35 years.
Tommy supported his family through his employ at Big Four Foundry, where he labored as a Moulder for over 25 years.
Mr. Davis was dutiful to his church, serving as a Deacon for many years. His generosity was felt by all he touched.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Gertrude Davis, along with four of his siblings, Louise DeShields, Jeffrey Davis, Jack Davis and Cora Jones. Also, his sister-in-law, Mary Hollins and his brother-in-law, Eugene Woods.
Those that wait on the Lord; his loving wife, Ruth Davis, of the home in Tulsa, Oklahoma; his children, Karla Phoenis, Phoenis, Arizona, Tommy Davis, Jr., Deborah Davis, Gerald Davis, Joel Davis and Ivette Casey [Hoodini], all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his siblings, Joe [LouDean] Davis, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mary Spurlin, Detroit, Michigan, and Bennie [Eleanor] Davis, Tulsa, Oklahoma; his in-laws, Dorothy Woods, Pleasant Grove, Texas, Willie Mae Glazier, Larry Thomas, Edward Reed, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Jason, Adrianne, Brandon, Brandi, Jared, Devin, Ryan, Kristen, DeMarco, Maurice, Danielle, Aunriette, Andre Joel, ioneeyay, Niomee and Naomee; his best friend, Dr. Lloyd Ruff; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many friends and other loved ones.
The Service of Memory will be on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 2:30 PM in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Sapulpa. Rev. L. B. Davison, Pastor of Philadelphia Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sapulpa, will Officiate.
The Final Rites will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, with Military Honors.
