Obituary

On July 15, 1953, a son was born to Phyllis Mae Maxwell and Spencer Speed. He was given the name Tony LaRoy.

He grew up in Taft, where he became a member of the First Baptist Church at an early age. He attended school in Taft and graduated from Moton High School with the Class of 1973.

After graduation, he moved to Tulsa and joined the workforce. He met and later married Deloris and from this union no children were born.

Tony was a fun person to be around and was liked by all who knew him. He never met a stranger. He will be missed by his family and friends. In this life, the years teach much which the days never know. Tony's health began to fail and realizing the need of special medical professionals and special medical equipment, Tony moved to San Antonio, TX, where he lived until his death.

His time on earth came to a close on January 8, 2008 in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Maxwell, his brother, Robert Earl, and his brandparents, Rev. T. A. and Millie Groves Maxwell.

He leaves to lament his passing; his father, Spencer Speed, Tulsa; 2 daughters, Tracy Hasting, Oklahoma City and KeLisha Maxwell, Tulsa; a son, Brandon Michael, Tulsa; 2 God-daughters, Rhoana West and Lynsey West, Tulsa; 4 God-sons, James West, Varnard Harris and Anthony Harris, all of Tulsa and Gregory Hasting, Oklahoma City; 5 grandchildren; 6 brothers, Maurice [Glenda] Maxwell, Muskogee, Cyril Maxwell, San Francisco, CA, Clarence, Charles, Johnny Roy and Leon Speed, all of Tulsa; 5 sisters, Willie Mae Wallace [Theodore], Haskell, OK, Cecelia Maxwell, San Antonio, TX, Dorothy, Wanda and Celestine Speed, all of Tulsa; 3 close knit cousins, Kenneth Wayne Speed and Thurman Speed, Tulsa, and Kyntha Mae Speek Sacramento, CA; a favorite cousin, Thurlman Roberts, Midwest City, OK; a very close friend, Glen Cullom, Jr., Tulsa; 4 aunts, Dollie M. Melvelle, Mill Valley, CA, Ruth McBride, Muskogee, Esther Maxwell, Tulsa, and Geraldine Washington, Muskogee; one uncle, Wilbert Robertson, Tulsa; 2 great-aunts, Vernice Peeples, Broken Arrow, and Etoice Groves, Taft; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church of Taft. Rev. Roscoe Beasley will officiate. The Cremains will be placed in the Booker T. Washington Cemtery after the service. Friends may sign the register and pay respects at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., on Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
