Obituary

Vacie Mae Stanford arrived in "Reeves Addition" on February 10, 1938 as the fourth born child from the loving union of Walter and Azalee Bess Stanford on February 10, 1939.

Vacie attended Langston Elementary School and continued her education in the Muskogee Public School system, ultimately graduating from Historic Manual Training High School.

Her christian experience began at an early age, under the leadership of Reverend McFrazier at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Vacie met David Chatman, Sr., and their love blossomed into marriage. Their love produced seven children.

For many years, Vacie styled hair and worked for the Waldorf Nursing Home, later moving to Wichita, Kansas. She worked for the Hospital there as a nurse and later, returned to live in Muskogee, where she labored for the last 35 years at Owens-Brockway Glass company. She was forced to retire when she became too sick to work. After her husband passed away, she shared her life with her companion, John McDowell and her family for many years until he passed in 2002.
