Obituary

Vean Simon, Jr., was born on February 16, 1930 in Pierce, Oklahoma. His parents are the late Vean Simon, better known as "Set Simon" and Roberta Bryant, known as "Cookie", who currently resides in Checotah, Oklahoma. He quietly and peacefully departed this life on January 10, 2007 in Houston, Texas.

Vean joined the United States Army in his early adult years and served for 24 years. He served in many countries of the world, including Vietnam, Korea, Okinawa, Ethiopia, Italy and Panama. He later became a Civil Service employee and continued his service to the United States, traveling to many countries around the world. He retired in 1995 in Arizona and then finally moved to Houston, Texas, spending alomost three years with his two oldest daughters.

He married in the early years of his Army service to Letha Belle Evans in September of 1954. Together, they became the parents of three daughters and one son. Later, he would be blessed with another son.

He leaves to cherish fond memories; his loving and devoted daughgers, Sandra Simon Lattany and Rhonda Simon Yates, of Houston, Texas; Billie Ann Simon, of Denver, Colorado; two loyal and devoted sons, Vean Simon, III, Chandler, Arizona and William McNac Simon, of Ricon, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Warrior [Beverly], of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Jessie Mae Jackson, of Checotah, Oklahoma; Violet Conyers [Elque], of Sumber, South Carolina and Lenda Lee [Clyde], of Tucson, Arizona;

Vean, affectionately known as "Bill", was a quiet, humble and generous man. The simple things in life made him the most happiest. He was a modest man with few possessions in his final years, but he knew that one of the greatest possessions that anyone could have was love. And that was his greatest possession in his las days of life. Love for God and his promises and love for his family.

The farewell tribute will be on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Remembrance of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Muskogee. You may visit Mr. Simon, as he slumbers at the funeral home from 12 noon to 6 PM on Tuesday.
