Obituary

Mrs. Vernice Glenn Harris was born July 30, 1928 in Mounds, Oklahoma. She was the second of nine beautiful children born to Robert Lee Glenn, Sr. and Iva Henry Glenn. Her parents, a baby sister, Ella Mae Glenn, and brothers, Elmer and Richard Glenn preceded her in death.
A smart and active child, Mrs. Harris received her education in the Wheatley School system in Beggs, Oklahoma. She was a dedicated student and often told stories of how she and her siblings walked miles, sometimes in the cold and snow, to get to school. She never stopped stimulating her mind as she loved working Word Search puzzles up to the very end of her life.
In Mounds, she met and married Rev. W.B. Harris. They became the very proud parents of seven loving children. Preceding her in death are their oldest child, a daughter, Doris Jean Harris Jackson, and a baby daughter, Joyce Faye Harris.
Mrs. Harris gave her life to Christ at a young age. She was a most active member of Flipper Chapel A.M.E. Church in Sapulpa, Oklahoma for over 30 years, until her health prevented her from driving the almost 20 miles to church every Sunday. She continued to attend church when her children were able to bring her and she never stopped supporting her church financially. She served faithfully for a number of years as President and active member of the Missionary Society, as a Trustee and a Stewardess.
Mrs. Harris was a phenomenal cook. She loved preparing meals for her family, especially on holidays and other special occasions. Unknown to many, she was a jokester, who liked to do or say things to make everyone laugh. Some of her greatest joys were tending to her beautiful flowers and to her annual vegetable garden, from which she eagerly shared the fruits of her labor.
Mrs. Harris will be so greatly missed by many who will cherish wonderful memories of her, but most of all by her loving and supportive children, who were by her side constantly during her illness and at the time she departed this life for her heavenly home. They include her 3 sons, Clifford L. (Johnetta) Harris, Willis J. (Carolyn) Harris, and Raymond E. Harris; and her 2 daughters, Teresa A. Harris Hanley and Iva M. Harris. Tremendously missing "Mo" (as she was affectionately called) will be her 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory, 3 brothers, LeRoy (Louise) Glenn, Robert Glenn, Jr., and Walter (Belinda) Glenn; 2 sisters, Juanita Duncan and her baby sister, Beatrice Owens; uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. She will also be missed by her good friend and fellow church member, Louise Alford; and by her special friend, Tweety.

Funeral Services for Vernice Harris will be at 11am Monday December 22, 2014 at the St. John AME church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Friends may visit Ms. Harris on Sunday from 3PM until 6PM in Tulsa.
