Mr. Vernon Lee Stewart, age 73 and a resident of Muskogee, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from Muskogee.
Mr. Steward was born in Muskogee on July 20, 1936, the son of Sylvester N. and Viola Lee Stewart.
He attended school in Muskogee and at an early age, united with the Macedonia Baptist Church under the pastoral guidance of Rev. E. Hardy.
Vernon later became an undergraduate of Tuskegee University in Alabama.
After his education, he enlisted in the United States Army and serving his country honorably during two major wars. The Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After his tours there, he was sent to Heidelberg, Germany, where he met and married his love, Renate Mayer of Germany. From this union, one daughter was born, Sabrina Viola Nadine Stewart.
He later transferred to Fort Hood, Texas, where he remained until his health started to fail. He maintained his home in Muskogee as a part of the Reeves addition area, where he often returned for vacation or a weekend visit.
Vernon's Germany family often came to Muskogee to visit with him. His last days weres spent with both his Muskogee and Germany family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to mourn his death; a daughter, Sabrina, of Germany; two brothers, Sylvester D. Stewart and Clifton V. Stewart, both of Muskogee; his former wife, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The final salute will be on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Remembrance at the funeral home. Evangelist Lorraine Hale will officiate. Cremation will follow the services with Full Military honors rendered at the funeral home.
