Versia Harris was born on August 24,1920 in Nuyaka, Oklahoma, from the union of Reverend Joseph M. and Matilda [Green] Shepard, who both preceded her in death.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and was baptized. She joined the St. Luke Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Reverend U. J. Wimbush.

Versia married Thomas Harris on March 14, 1937 in Nuyaka, Oklahoma. Their union was blessed with 8 children.

Mrs. Harris was a homemaker who lovingly designed and hand-crafted beautiful, colorful quilts for her family and friends. She was a constant source of love providing for her family and unselfishly giving of herself.

On December 27, 2005, just about 8:30 P.M., the Lord called her home to be in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Willie Barnett and a grandson, Laymon Harris, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory; 2 daughters, Crissaundra [Crissy] and Wyvonne [sister]; 6 sons, Lawrence & wife Vickie, Thomas Jr., & wife Trushon, Lorenzo, Londale, Laymon and Lloyd; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 step-granddaughters; 8 step-great-grandchildren; along with a caravan of other relatives friends and St. Luke Baptist church family.

The final hour for Mrs. Harris was held on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the St. Luke Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Tuskegee Cemetery at Edna, Oklahoma.
