On March 25, 1938 a bundle of joy was delivered to George Washington and Willie Mae Williams Ingram in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They named their bouncing baby girl Vesta Mae. She was the youngest of 11 children born to the union. Her parents, as well as 5 brothers—L.C., W.G., Raymond, George, Charlie; and 2 sisters—Johnny Mae Ingram, and Willie Ruth Harlin preceded her in death.
At a young age Vesta accepted Christ and was baptized into the Black Jack Baptist Church. She attended the Black Jack School early, then Moton High School in Taft, Oklahoma where she met, fell in love with, and married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Finch, Mar. 20, 1954, a marriage lasting almost 49 ½ yrs. until his death on March 16, 2004.
In her mature years Vesta actively pursued Christ, her journey beginning with her love of education and her involvement throughout the years in civic, social, and church affiliations. Vesta attended a number of universities, and earned a certificate in business administration. She received a B.A. from National Christian University in Dallas, Texas and earned a degree from the Victory Bible Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma; served as a Board Member of the Eastern OK Human Development Co-operation; was inducted into the Who's Who Hall of Fame, and served as the interim pastor of the First Baptist Church of Wagoner, Oklahoma in their absence of a pastor.
Vesta will be greatly missed, especially at family gatherings, where the "fun" didn't start until Vesta got there, entering the room, always with "flair." On April 14, 2015, God called Vesta home. She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Debbie, Del (Etta), Ty (Pom); five grandchildren, Dianca Finch, LaToya Collins (Larry), Rehim Finch, Matthew Jones, Malcolm Jones; one great grandson, Miles Collins; 3 sisters, Willie Jean Cullom, Billie Ray Moses, Esther Fay Smith, and a host of relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Finch will be Monday April 20, 2015 at 10AM inside Biglow's All Faiths Chapel in Tulsa.
Friends may visit Mrs. Finch on Sunday from 2PM until 5PM.
Burial will follow at The National Cemetery in Fort Gibson.
