One's Life Reflected..... Mr. Vilas Calvin Thompson

On August 16, 1934, a precious gift was born to Jeannette (Thompson) Lancaster and he accepted Christ at an early age and rededicated his life to Christ in recent years.

An only child, Vilas was born in Tullahassee, Oklahoma where he spent the first eight years of his life.  He then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma with his maternal grandmother, Georgia Thompson who raised him until he was eighteen.  Shortly after graduating high school, he joined the U.S Army and traveled all the U.S., as well as abroad and after a four-year term he was honorably discharged and returned to Tulsa.  Shortly thereafter, he met Rose Foster and they later married in March of 1959 and they were blessed with four children (Charlesetta, Valarie, Deloris and Randy).

Vilas worked for Wheatley Gaso Pumps Company as a machinist and he retired in 1998 after 30 years of service. He also had a lawn service business for approximately 25 years, which allowed him to impact the lives of several young men and even a few women, by allowing them to work with him (including his son, daughters, granddaughters, grandsons and great granddaughters and other family members).

Vilas was a dedicated and committed husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, friend and father figure to many.  He had a knack for teaching lessons to everyone he encountered imparting wisdom at every opportunity even if he didn't say that a lesson was about to take place and especially if they didn't ask for it – they were going to get the lesson anyway.  While he was an incredibly quiet man, he was always willing to share his wisdom with others when he thought they needed it.  He was known as being a man of his word, always and he expected the same of others.  He often said, all we have is our word and everyone should honor their word.

Preceding him in death: his wife, Rose M. Thompson; his mother, Jeanette Thompson and grandparents, Archie and Georgia Thompson.

He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters Charlesetta Thompson-Samuel, Valarie (David) Brown, Deloris Beavers (Robert), son Randy Thompson, 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, in addition to a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and several semi-adopted sons to whom he was a second father.

With a life well lived and a soul at rest, Vilas (also affectionately known as 'Goose') is with the Lord and he will spend his days walking around Heaven with Rose and attending church services with her.

"We are confident I say and willing rather to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."  I Corinthians 5:8
