"In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety."
Psalm 4:8
Virdia Lee Moss, age 87, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2020 in Muskogee,
Oklahoma after a valiant, eight year fight with Alzheimer's.
She was born January 28,1933 in Morrilton, Arkansas to the late Arittra Dowdle and Vashtie Williamson Dowdle.
Virdia completed her primary and secondary education in Morrilton (Conway County), Arkansas. Shortly after high school graduation, she married James Lee Moss and moved to Detroit, Michigan where they bought a home and started a family.
Following her years in Detroit, she moved to Oklahoma to continue raising her family. She found great comfort and support from the Church of Christ congregation. She actively engaged in church by sharing her passion for learning, supporting others through life events, and building life-long relationships.
She was inspired to pursue and earn a Master's in Education at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. One of Virdia's greatest joys and achievements was being in service to others. She was a role model for how to live your best life by having a 'heart for giving back'. As a special education teacher for Muskogee Public Schools, she addressed the individual needs of her students with compassion and understanding.
She consistently made the time in the summer months volunteering at nursing homes to assist women with personal care. She also treasured spending time with family and enjoyed many hobbies including cooking, sewing, and reading. After retiring, she devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members.
Virdia was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Rosa Lee Bruner and Mary Ann Murrell and her oldest son, Undra Delmore Moss.
Virdia leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Bertha Lee Heaggans, and Lucille Leapheart and her husband, Morris Leapheart; a son, Demetrius M. Moss; two daughters, Ingria B. Moss and Adrienne Y. Allen; and six grandchildren, Walter Allen III, Iyushi B. McElwee, Demetrius M. Moss, James L. Moss, Jeffrey M. Allen, and Terrence W.
