On May 27, 1932, Waddie Jean Bowie was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma from the union of Clarence and Albessie Nelson. She was raised by her mother and her grandmother, Moriah Savannah.
At a young age, she was baptized at the Christian Church. Later in life, she was married on December 29, 1949 to Leroy Smith. They were divorced in 1952 and she was married again on September 24, 1974 to Charles Bowie and later divorced.
Jean Bowie became a member of Love Center Christian Fellowship, now known as Resurrection Life Miracle Love Center in 1984, and was faithful unto death. She served the Lord faithfully as Assistant Pastor since 2000.
"Mother Bowie" as she was affectionately known, was a community activist, feeding the hungry, providing clothing and furnishings for the needy. She was easy to talk to and provided counsel to many who sought her compassion and wisdom. Mother Bowie was faithful and truly pressed for the Prize of the High Calling in Christ Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Andrew Barnett, Jethro Carr, Donald Hayes and Alfred Nelson; also, Emzie Parker, who was like a brother to her.
She leaves with broken hearts; her brother and his wife, Mr. & Mrs. Foster Wilson Ford; five children whom she raised, Michael, Charlesetta, Charles, Jr., DeWayne & wife, Lovely, and Arnetta; a host of grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration will be on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the Calvary Baptist Church, 412 North 7th in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Rev. Scott Gordon, the gracious host Pastor, will officiate and Pastor Joyce M. Gardner will deliver the Eulogy.
