Obituary

To Everything there is a season, a time to be born……
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Walter Anderson, Jr. was the youngest of nine children born to Walter W. Anderson, Sr. and Gricella R. Tyler-Anderson. He was born in Wildcat Indian Territory Grayson, OK on March 23rd, 1936.
Walter attended Sunrise Elementary School in Sunrise, OK outside of Morris until about age 6 or 7. He later attended school in Grayson, OK and graduated from Dunbar High School in Okmulgee, OK in 1956.

After graduation he relocated to Detroit, MI with his Bro. John and Sis. Melba to work at General Motors. While in Detroit his Mom became very ill, so he returned to Oklahoma. After the passing of his Mom, he moved to San Bernardino, CA to stay with his Sis. Sylvia. He got a job working construction with a man named Corinzo B. Smith. Through this job, he would meet the most beautiful women he ever saw and the love of his life, Wyvette Smith. He was drafted into the US Army in 1958 while in CA. He and Wyvette were married on May 1st, 1962 when he returned from serving in the military. He continued in the Army Reserve and received an honorable discharge in 1964.

Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord."
Proverbs 18:22
Walter, Jr. worked at the San Bernardino County Hospital as a Supervisor in the Laundry Department for over 20 years. He and Wyvette raised five children while working full time and raising five children, he and his wife both received their Associate Degree from San Bernardino Valley College. All their children had the opportunity to see them graduate. He was also a baseball and a football coach. He was the neighborhood taxi, all the children in the neighborhood loved to ride in Mr. Anderson's truck, lovingly named Geronimo. Walter was a hard working man and truly believed, 'if you don't work, you don't eat.' He encouraged his children to work around the house, in the yard, to earn their right to eat and receive free room and board. He was loved and respected in the community and by his extended family. He coached little league baseball, Jr. All American football and track and field. He was a father figure to so many in the neighborhood, always teaching and training young boys to become men. His truck was the neighborhood taxi to practice weekly during baseball and football season.

He gave his life to Christ during a revival at Wilson Chapel Baptist Church under the preaching of Rev. Larry H. Smith. He was a faithful servant of God. He later became a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Okmulgee, OK. He followed his pastor, Rev. Larry H. Smith to Macedonia Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK. He served faithfully in the Usher Ministry and Brotherhood Ministry. He lovingly volunteered his time and vehicle to pick up food and serve the Angel food Ministry.
After many years at the hospital he decided to move back to OK and live out his dream. He moved his family to Oklahoma the summer of August 1980. His dream had always been, 'To move back home to Oklahoma, buy him some land, build him a house and live on a farm.' He fulfilled that wish!
He worked in Construction off and on until he became employed at the Raider Center Boys Detention Center in Sand Springs, OK where he shared his wit, knowledge and humor to make an impression on many of the young men at the center. He retired from the Raider Center in 1998.
His sense of humor was contagious! Only a few minutes with him and laughter was soon to follow. His biggest joy is bragging and talking about ALL his good lookin and smart children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His favorite pass time is working in garage, fixing things and outside in the garden.
He is the best Daddy and Grandpa in the World. God has TRULY blessed the Family Man, God Man, Working Man name Walter W. Anderson, Jr. We are Blessed in the name of Jesus.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course ……."
