Obituary

Walter Gator Lee was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on September 15, 1940, the son of Edward and Thelma [Wesson] Lee. Shortly after his birth, the family left Idabel and moved to Taft, Oklahoma in 1941. The family later moved to Haskell, Oklahoma before moving to Muskogee in 1946.

Gator attended Muskogee Public Schools, attending Langston and Dunbar elementary school, Sadler Jr. High and ultimately, Historic Manual Training High School, where he graduated with the prestigious Class of 1959. Gator played Basketball at Sadler, and played Football and Basketball for the Bulldogs at Manual.

Mr. Lee moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked for 40 years for Legion Lanes Bowling Alley in Inglewood, California and Santa Monica Lanes, as well. Gator was an excellent Golfer, along with his brother who all played together often. After moving back to Oklahoma, he worked for Muskogee Country Club, where he was a Caddy Master. Gator was also an avid bowler, maintaining a 200 average.

Mr. Lee was a faithful member of Rayfield Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Brotherhood.

Walter Gator Lee, after 74 years with us, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Elnora Brown and Helen Lee; and three brothers, James LEe, Edward Lee and Dillard Lee.

He leaves in God's care; his son, Jimmy [Sandra] Cooper, Muskogee, Oklahoma; his daughter, Ruth [Michael] Guillory, Beaumont, Texas; three grandchildren, Jimmy Cooper, Jr., Michael Cooper and Alysha Horton; two great-grandchildren; his brothers, Charlie "Chops" Lee, Los Angeles, California, Willard "Horn" Lee, Gardenia, California, Donald "Budda" Lee, Inglewood, California and Kevin Lee, Muskogee, Oklahoma; along with other relatives and many friends in Oklahoma and in Los Angeles, where he was well known and loved.

The Hour of Remembrance for Mr. Lee will be shared on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Rayfield Baptist Church. His Pastor, Reverend Leroy Walker, Sr., will officiate.

You may visit "Gator" as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12 Noon until 6:00 PM and on Thursday beginning at 9:00 AM until 12 Noon, and then at the Church from 1:00 PM until service time. The Casket will not be opened at the conclusion of the service.
