On July 29, 1941, in Oktaha, Oklahoma, a daughter was born to Claude and Ruby Hitchye. She was given the name Wanda Marie. Wanda was educated at Summit Schools during her elementary years before ultimately attending the Historic Manual Training High School.
Wanda professed a hope in Christ and gave her life to Him at Saint Mark Baptist Church under the Pastorage of Reverend Theodore Hickerson.
She worked for Muskogee Regional Medical Center as a Dietician for many years before her retirement in 2005. Affectionately known as "Miss Wanda," she blessed us all with her cooking, especially her signature rolls, chocolate chip cookies and many other desserts.
"Miss Wanda" fell asleep on Earth, but woke up in Paradise on Friday morning, June 8, 2012 from Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters and a grandson.
She leaves in God's care; five sons, Marvin "Bodie" [Cassandra] Hitchye, Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Darryl Washington, McKinney, Texas, Don Hitchye, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Kevin Hitchye, Tucson, Arizona and Brian [Paula] Donaldson, Muskogee, Oklahoma; her daughter, Marva Donaldson, Muskogee, Oklahoma; a special son, Harold Aldridge, Muskogee, Oklahoma; two brothers, Herbert [Linda] Hitchye and Glen [Debra] Hitchye, all of Muskogee, Oklahoma; a sister, Vivian Whitmore, Los Angeles, California; 20 Grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Louie Ashley, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Hitchye, Tucson, Arizona and Alice Hitchye, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a special friend, Ollie Basham; and a caravan of other relatives and many friends.
The Hour of Tribute will commence on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the most Holy sanctuary of the Saint Mark Baptist Church, 1020 South 2nd street in Muskogee. The Reverend Rodger Cutler, Pastor, will preside and Reverend Clarence Ashley, Eulogist.
