Wanda Kay Simmons, in her 55th season, surrendered her soul on November 17, 2005 from her home in Muskogee. She was born in Oklahoma City on May 20, 1950, the duagher of Ruby Simmons. She was the first of four siblings.
She began her Christian journey being baptized at Flipper Chapel AME Church in Taft, Oklahoma, under the Pastorship of Reverend B. J. Beckner.
Wanda attended Moton Elementary, Jr. High School and High School in Taft, graduating with the Class of 1968. She continued her education in Excelsior Spring, Kansas, where she pursued a career in Cosmetology at Job Corp. She obtained a Nurse's Assistant Certification from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
She was employed for 20 years at Corning Glass, and later at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center until her health began to fail. She was truly devoted to her family.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Hubert and Modest Simmonss; her paternal grandparents, Shorty and Dolly Hill and a nephew, Serome Pratt.
She leaves to lament her passing; a son, Jerome [Yolanda] Jones, Wagoner, Oklahoma; her mother, Ruby Simmons, Muskogee, Oklahoma; her father, Timothy Hill, Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister, Wanda J. Simmons; two brothers, Tyrone Simmons and Roosevelt PRatt, all of Muskogee, Oklahoma; four nephews, Nathan, Brandon, Brian and Roshawn; two great-nieces; six uncles; two aunts; and a caravan of other relatives and friends.
The final tribute to Miss Simmons will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. in the Antioch Baptist Church. Reverend Ray K. Gaines, Pastor of Central Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Booker T. Washington Cemetery.
